Sight For Africa – COECSA

On August the 20th, we participated to Sight for Africa – The Second Eye Health Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in Kigali, Rwanda.

The chairman of this convention was Dr. Wei He, founder and President of He Eye Specialist Hospital (HESH) and Board Member of International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO). The co-chairmen were Kgao Legodi, Vice President of International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) and President of African Ophthalmology Council (AOC) and John Nkurikiye, President of Rwanda Ophthalmology Society.

The main topic of this Summit was to discuss the ways to continously band together for facing the severe situation in the prevention and control of blindness in Africa.

Our Sales&Marketing Manager, Mr. Davide Maddalozzo had the chance to spoke during this Summit giving a lecture about “Demonstration of Intelligent Medical Equipment”. Adaptica’s equipments can really make the difference, especially in a Continent like Africa where, thanks to the portability of our devices, also people in remote villages can have access to Eye Care Screenings.

Our goal is to provide Eye Care Specialists with the best instruments to perform accurate exams in order to detect and correct eye defects to everyone, everywhere.

We are so proud to take part to this type of events and initiatives. Together we can make the difference!

Screening in Bolivia

Screening in Bolivia

Dr Mario Angi is a renown  ophthalmologist based in Padova and President of CBM Italia Onlus, a non-profit organization with headquarter in Germany.
During the last mission screening in Bolivia, Dr. Angi examined more than 200 kids using Kaleidos. Below is his comment on the use of Kaleidos in this mission trip:

“During the screening conducted in Bolivia from the 26th of April to the 2nd of May 2019, we examined more than 200 kids at first grade school, comparing the data and visual acuity performed by Kaleidos, with the ones performed by HandyRef Nidek’s autorefractor – without cycloplegic. At the end the results showed that astigmatism measurements almost match between the two devices: Kaleidos, for the spherical defect, doesn’t generate a false myopia – found in 20% of the exams made with the autorefractometer without cycloplegic. Combining Kaleidos – a binocular refractometer – with visual acuity measurement reduces the risks of false positive results due to non-collaborative pediatric patients and helps to identify the patients with strabismus >10 PD.”

OneSight & National Geographic event

On May 2nd, OneSight hosted an event with National Geographic at the National Geographic Society Headquarters, bringing together some of the brightest minds in vision care to discuss serving the neediest populations around the world. We were invited to take part to this event where the Pulitzer Prize photographer Stephanie Sinclair was the keynote speaker. Stephanie Sinclair is the same photographer who provided the photos that accompany the beautiful National Geographic’s article on the use of Kaleidos and VisionFit during the Onesight mission in the Amazon River.

The panel discussion brought to life the existing lack of access to eye care services that many individuals and entire countries like Rwanda, Brazil, China, and the US suffer. The right of a clear sight impact education outcomes, economic potential, and quality of life. We can solve this critical global vision care gap for good, together.

A”Future everyone can see”: this is our common goal now.

Screening week at Sant’Alessio

Screening week at Sant’Alessio

Amblyopia, also known as “lazy eye”, is curable. However, to solve the problem, the visual defect must be ascertained at an early age. For this reason, the Sant’Alessio Regional Center in Rome, has decided to join the campaign “AMGO-To me the eyes”.

Amblyopia

On Saturday 23rd and Saturday 30th March, the IPAB has made its structure available for children aged between 12 and 30 months. From 9am to 6pm, parents who wanted to make their children visited, had the opportunity to get a free screening to identify symptoms of amblyopia, or lazy eye syndrome.

The importance of an early diagnosis

“The therapy for the correction of amblyopia – explains Antonio Organtini, general manager of the Sant’Alessio Regional Center – is all the more effective the earlier it begins; once they reach 6-7 years of age the visual system is developed, with minimal margins of response to the occlusive treatment, which is a simple solution with greater efficacy only if applied early “.

Useful information

How to book an appointment? To participate in the screening it is necessary to choose a date and book the visit by calling the dedicated number 06.51.30.18.538 (Monday to Friday 9/15). Or you can write an email to address protocollo@santalessio.org.

Not only screening

“Our orthoptists and our ophthalmologists – states Antonio Organtini – are available to families not only to make the free screening, but also to raise awareness of this visual condition that should never be overlooked”.

Mass screening organized by Cavite State University – Philippines

Last April 15, 2019, Local Medical Technology students from Cavite State University used our Kaleidos and performed refractions to 70 adult & child patients plus around 40 students. These students helped organize this humanitarian mission for their local barangay people in Indang, Cavite, in the southern part of Luzon and approximately a three hour drive outside of Manila.

Kaleidos is the best tool for them to use for these screenings as it’s portable, easy to use, can be used in any setting, and can give you results in seconds without needing a skilled operator.
